Dates of the Conference: 30 and 31 May, 1 June of 2018. https://web.ua.es/en/ega2018/

The biannual conferences of Architectural Graphic Expression gather since 1984, when the first Conference was held at the University of La Coruña, researchers from departments of Architectural Representation and related departments of other countries. For the 2018 edition of the EGA Conference we propose a theme that intends to be open and attractive enough to entice the greatest participation in our area of knowledge and, if possible, related disciplines or researchers that can bring new light to our conferences. Our intention is to produce a bilingual publication of the Proceedings (with Springer) and in Spanish/Italian (at the University of Alicante).

Conference Theme. GRAPHIC IMPRINT

On the influence of the representation and ideation tools architecture

The main topic proposed for the next EGA conference aims to foster the debate around the role that drawing and, in general, the representation and ideation tools have played in the development of architecture and its own language over time. The tool is not innocent; we think that to a greater or lesser extent it influences the result that is obtained from it. In this sense, the conference seeks to claim the decisive role that design tools and drawing in particular have had throughout history in the evolution of architectural language.

Despite the instrumental nature of drawing within architecture, the influence that the development of representation systems and the different tools used by the architects during the project process in history have proved that there is a fertile relationship between drawing and project, between graphic ideation and architecture. Most disruptive recent practices seem to put some of these relationships in crisis while generating other types of imprints in the architectural project, perhaps even more decisive in the final result. Thus, the reflection on the imprint that the graphic or other design tools can leave in the project and, as a consequence, how have they been able to influence in different ways the course architecture itself.
