THINKING the drawing of thought / the thought of drawing 

FRANCO PURINI / drawing perspective

Born in Isola del Liri in 1941, he is Emeritus professor at “La Sapienza” University of Rome. He also taught in Ascoli Piceno, Milan, Perugia, Reggio Calabria, Siena and Venice. He is the author of a consistent series of texts, both theoretical and dedicated to his works, and of numerous projects, some of which have been realized. He is also one of the most famous protagonists of drawing architecture in Italy and abroad. His work has been presented at the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale, institutions for which he has also curated some exhibitions. He received the Leone di Pietra award in 1985 at the Venice Biennale, the Gold Medal of Benemerito della Cultura e dell’Arte of the Presidency of the Republic and the Gold Medal for Career at the Triennale di Milano. He is a member of the Accademia Nazionale di San Luca and the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno in Florence. He received an Honoris Causa degree from the Jon Mincu Faculty of Architecture in Bucharest.


KNOWING the drawing of knowledge / the knowledge of drawing

GEORGE TATGE / metaphorical photography

Born in Istanbul in 1951 to an Italian mother and an American father, he spent his adolescence between Europe and the Middle East before moving to the United States. Graduated in English Literature, he approached photography alongside Hungarian Michael Simon. In 1973 he moved to Italy, working first in Rome and then in Todi, developing his photographic research. From 1986 to 2003 he was technical-photographic director of the Fratelli Alinari company in Florence. He has presented exhibitions in America and Europe and his works are part of some of the most important international collections including those of the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Centre Canadien d’Architecture in Montreal and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. Among the main exhibition venues that have hosted his works are The American Academy in Rome (1981), the Peggy Guggenheim in Venice (2005) and the MAXXI in Rome (2007).

Born in Florence in 1966, he graduated in History of Philosophy at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa and, after spending periods of study and research at the Courtauld Institute in London and at the Eberhard Karls Universität in Tübingen, he obtained the title of PhD in History of Contemporary Art. Associate professor of Contemporary art history, he teaches at the University for Foreigners Perugia and is Visiting Professor at the IMT School for Advanced Study Lucca. Between 2011 and 2013 he directed the MAED Master in Educational Management at the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art and is part of the scientific committee of the OGR-Officine Grandi Riparazioni of Turin. Between 2018 and 2019 he curated the exhibition Paul Klee. At the origins of art at the MUDEC-Museum of Cultures in Milan.


COMMUNICATING the drawing of communication / the communication of drawing

Born in Perugia in 1964, he obtained his II level academic diploma at the ISIA in Urbino. In 1992 he founded the Bcpt Associati studio, which deals with communication design and branding. In 2003 he founded the collective CoMoDo, which pays particular attention to content design and social innovation. His work ranges from strategic design to consultancy for corporate and institutional branding plans. Over the years he has gained considerable international experience leading his work team to develop projects in Europe, United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Jordan and China. He is National President of Aiap – Associazione Italiana Design della Comunicazione Visiva and professor at the ISIA in Urbino, at the “Pietro Vannucci” Academy of Fine Arts in Perugia and at the University of Perugia.

ARDUINO CANTÀFORA / thoughts and images

Born in Milani in 1945, he lives and works between Milan and Lausanne. Architect, Emeritus professor at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL), he has also taught in Venice, at the Academy of Architecture in Mendrisio and was Visiting Professor at Yale University. His professional activity includes exhibitions at the Triennale di Milano in 1973 with the “Città Analoga” and again in 1980, 1984 and 2012. In 1980 he took part in the Venice Biennale both in the architecture section and in the visual arts section. He exhibited at the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin in 1984, at the Palazzo Reale in Milan in 1990 and 2012 and at the Centro Pompidou in Paris in 1994 and 2012. His activity also includes theatrical sets, including that for La Scala in Milan. The international recognition of his work is testified by the acquisition of some of his works by the Musée National d’Art Moderne of the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2006.
